Travel by Mary Helen

Flying can be a thrilling experience, but for many, it comes with a heavy dose of anxiety. If you’re one of the anxious flyers, don’t worry! You’re not alone, and there are effective strategies to help you prepare for your flight. In this blog post, we’ll explore the best ways to ease your nerves and make your journey more enjoyable.

Tip #1 - Understand Your Fear

The first step in overcoming flight anxiety is to understand what triggers your fear. Is it the fear of heights, claustrophobia, or a lack of control? Identifying the root cause can help you address your specific concerns. Consider journaling your thoughts before the flight, or talking them out with a friend or therapist. Invite God into this fear and ask Him to fly with you. He promises to give peace that surpasses understanding. (Philipians 4:6-7)

Tip #2 - Educate Yourself About Flying

Knowledge is power, especially when it comes to flying. Familiarizing yourself with how airplanes work, the safety measures in place, and the flight process can significantly reduce anxiety. Here are some common facts that might help:

  • Air travel is one of the safest modes of transportation.

  • Pilots and crew undergo extensive training to handle emergencies.

  • Turbulence is a normal part of flying and rarely poses any danger.

Tip #3 - Choose the Right Flight

Selecting the right flight can make a huge difference in your comfort level. Here are a few tips to consider:

  • Book a direct flight: This minimizes the stress of layovers and connections.

  • Choose your seat wisely: If claustrophobia is an issue, opt for an aisle seat for more space and easy access to the aisle.

Tip #4 - Prepare a Relaxation Routine

Create a pre-flight relaxation routine to help calm your nerves. Here are some ideas:

  • Practice deep breathing exercises: Focus on inhaling deeply through your nose and exhaling slowly through your mouth.

  • Meditate on scripture knowing that God is with you.

You can do this! You're more couragious than you know!

If flying leaves you bound with fear, remeber that you are not alone. Preperation and a clear mind can help aid in an enjoyable flight experience. Remember to fill your mind with the good and expel your mind from the negtive. You've got this!
